A rare total eclipse of the sun will be visible on Monday, August 21, an hour north of Boise, Idaho. To help prepare you for this historic moment, Professor Katherine Follette will speak about the historical significance of solar eclipses as well as how to safely view them. Professor Follette will distribute eclipse glasses to attendees and will set up a solar telescope for viewing the sun. If time allows, Professor Follette will also speak and answer questions about her research in imaging extrasolar planets. Professor Follette is an Assistant Professor of Astronomy at Amherst College. Prior to arriving at Amherst, she was a NASA Sagan Fellow at the Kavli Institute for Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology at Stanford University.
