John M. McKeough '45

Jack McKeough died on Aug. 17, 2009, age 86 in Averill Park, N.Y. He is survived by Constance, his wife of 58 years, their five children and eight grandchildren.

Jack entered Amherst from the Cranwell School and after two years was ordered to naval training at Williams and Columbia Midshipman School. Like many of his classmates, he was assigned to duty with the amphibious forces, serving in the Pacific. His duty was aboard the U.S.S. LSM-200, first as gunnery officer and finally as captain.

Following the end of the war, Jack returned to Amherst to complete his studies.

Jack spent 20 years in sales with the Tidewater Oil Co. then with the American Oil Co. in Albany. For another 20 years, he was in the building materials industry with Masonite and Dorsey Millwork.

Jack was an avid railroad buff and enjoyed riding the rails of the northwest in his spare time. Another hobby was gardening.

The Class extends sincere condolences to Jack’s family.
