Lloyd Willis Roberson '45
Lloyd Roberson died on May 29, 2007, at age eighty-three. He was born in Worcester, MA, and entered Amherst from Wilbraham Academy. Like many of us, he was ordered to Williams in the V-12 program, eventually serving in the amphibious forces of the US Navy where he was promoted to the position of commanding officer of an LST.
On completion of his undergraduate studies at Amherst, Lloyd enrolled at Columbia Law School and for many years practiced law in New York City and Westchester County.
In 1967, he became general attorney for the litigation of the Erie-Lackawanna Railway Co. until a transfer of title to Conrail in 1975 forced him to change his plans. Two of the more rewarding experiences in Lloyd’s legal career were working briefly with William H. Hastie ’25, then governor of the Virgin Islands, and Thurgood Marshall, member of the US Supreme Court.
For many years, Lloyd was an active member of the West Center Congregational Church in Bronxville, NY. He is survived by his wife, Doris Herold (Mount Holyoke ’45); four daughters, Lynn, Patricia, Katherine and Irene ’82; and three grandchildren.
