In Memory

Dick died on April 1, 2010, from a massive stroke. This occurred just three weeks after Dick had dinner with former roommates Steve Goldstone and Hank Head.  At that time, Steve found Dick to be in good spirits and health. Steve and Mireille Goldstone saw Dick three to four times a year in Florida for the past five years.

Dick was born on Jan. 7, 1934, and came to Amherst from the Detroit University School. Jon Desenberg remembers that he and Dick were two of the few ’55ers from the Detroit area. Both men went to Michigan law school after Amherst and then on to practice law in Detroit at their respective father’s law firms. Dick practiced corporate law and also earned an L.L.M. from Wayne State University in 1973.

As an undergraduate, Dick was a member of Chi Psi and majored in American studies. He was a three year letter winner on the college’s rowing crew, serving as co-captain his senior year.

In the early 2000s, Dick fully retired so he and Beverly could move to The Villages in Central Florida. Steve referred to Dick as “The Mayor” of The Villages because of his enthusiasm for the community. He took operatic and classical music courses.

Dick and Beverly were married on Dec. 27, 1956, and were blessed with three children—Douglas, Priscilla, and Stephen—and five grandchildren.

To all of them, we wish to express our sincere condolences. We will always have fond memories of Dick.
