Teaching

I teach a wide variety of classes that primarily focus on the vibrant cultures of the Spanish-speaking world. My courses are grounded in cultural studies, incorporating literature, film, artwork, graphic novels, maps and digital media. I always take an interdisciplinary approach, weaving together literary and film studies with history, politics, language and geography. My specialty is 20th and 21st Century Spain, though I reflect Spain's interconnections to the rest of Europe, Latin America, North American, Africa and Asia in my teaching. In humanities courses such as my First Year Seminar "Graphic Lives" and my "Japan and Spain Onscreen" Film and Media Studies class, I explore how different cultures converge around a particular topic or genre.

I am a hispánofila at heart: I pour my love of the Spanish language and the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world into my classes.
