Jim Barr recently sent out an email to some of us that Reverend George Cadigan has died at the age of 95. I viewed that man like a grandfather, not only to me but to the college itself. "Bishop Cadigan" always carried a smile, was forever kind, and possessed an abiding, genuine love for everyone and everything around him. The last time I saw him was at our graduation in '81. He went out of his way to find me and forked over an Amherst College paperweight! Why he thought of me I have NO idea. Maybe I'll find that he gave us ALL one! lol. In any event, it was a gift I cherished only because he gave it to me. Just 3 weeks ago I came across that paperweight while renovating my home office. It immediately made me think of him, wonder if he was even still alive. I kind of wish now I'd taken a minute right then to inquire about him. : ( He will be missed. But his presence will always be there at Amherst. Not because of the building there named after him. But because he touched the lives of so many of us ... by simply caring. How wonderful.
