Frank Landon Wielandy, known to some of his friends as Mike, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at the age of 75 after a difficult period of failing health and finally a fatal heart attack.

Born and raised in St. Louis, he was the only child of Francis H. and Marjorie Wielandy. He graduated from Amherst College and received his MBA from the University of Chicago. He met and fell in love with Judith Sensenstein in Geneva, Switzerland while doing research for his masters degree. They were married in Niles, Michigan in 1967, and settled in Topeka in 1971 where they have lived together ever since.

Frank was the devoted husband of Judith, the loving father of their only child Stephan, the loving father-in-law of Stephan s wife Raia, and the incredibly proud grandfather of their daughters Elisabeth and Madeline.

Smart, strong-willed and sometimes stubborn, funny, usually charming, and above all always generous to a fault, Frank had a unique ability to attract kind and devoted friends in unexpected places. Throughout his life he committed himself absolutely to his family, and together they shared a wealth of adventures that created many wonderful memories.

There will be an informal gathering to celebrate Frank s life and share stories on Saturday afternoon. If you are a friend of Frank s and interested in attending, please call Stephan at 908-884-5500 for information. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Nature Conservancy.
