Another sad loss. Bill was a really nice guy and a very talented cartoonist. He had a delightful and quirky personality with a great sense of humor.

I'm sad to have to pass on the news that Bill Sheatsley died August 14.
An obituary appeared in a Santa Barbara newspaper that gives some biographical details and an account of his spiritual life. See the obit on these In Memory pages.
He was a good friend and will be missed. I think I may express our sympathy to his wife Stevie and the family.

Oh my!
I did not know Bill well at Amherst though like most of us I knew him because generally we knew almost everyone. If I knew about his spiritual life, including that part spent in Millbrook not far from where Tracy and I spend half of each year, I had forgotten it.
Some time ago, he was "assigned" me as an associate agent for the Alumni Fund. For at least 10 years, I would call him. Sometimes I would just talk to Stevie. Sometimes he would call me back. Many times I would reach him and we'd talk about what we were doing. He was always jovial. In addition, he was a regular, consistent contributor, sometimes grousing a bit, but a regular. This is only important in that it is clear to me that Amherst was something special for him.
I was delighted that he and Stevie made it to our 50th.

Bill Sheatsley was one of the kindest, gentlest, and wisest correspondents I was fortunate enough to enjoy in my stints as Class Secretary. I too enjoyed seeing Stevie and Bill at our 50th reunion.
