News & Events Bruce ’74 and Carol Angiolillo to Serve as Honorary Co-Marshals at Amherst College Commencement May 25

AMHERST, Mass.—Bruce ’74 and Carol Angiolillo of Old Greenwich, Conn., will serve as Honorary Co-Marshals at Amherst College’s commencement exercises on Sunday, May 25. The Honorary Co-Marshals follow the Sheriff of Hampshire County and the faculty marshal in the academic procession and bear ceremonial maces, symbols of order and authority. The Angiolillos are the parents of John (Jack) Angiolillo ’08, who will graduate from Amherst that day.

Both Angiolillos have long served as passionate volunteers for the college. Bruce was a member of the Presidential Search Committee for his alma mater in 1994 and received Amherst’s Medal for Eminent Service in 1996. He also served as president of the college’s Society of the Alumni in 2004. In addition, he and wife Carol have co-chaired Amherst’s Annual Parents’ Fund since 2004, when daughter Livia ’04 graduated from the college.
 
Bruce is a senior partner in the litigation department at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, where he co-heads the securities litigation practice. His work focuses on class actions, derivative actions and contests for corporate control and complex commercial litigation. He became a partner at the firm in 1985 and currently serves as chairman of its finance committee. He is involved in many philanthropic endeavors as well: from 1995 to 2001, he served as a trustee of the Convent of the Sacred Heart School in Greenwich, Conn., and he is currently a member of the board of directors and secretary of Common Ground Community, which provides innovative solutions to homelessness in New York City. He received his B.A. magna cum laude from Amherst in 1974 and his J.D. from Columbia Law School in 1977.

Carol earned both B.F.A. and M.F.A. degrees from New York University’s School of the Arts and received her J.D. from Columbia Law School. Now retired from practicing law, she has been a volunteer for the Greenwich public schools and Convent of the Sacred Heart for 20 years and has held a leadership role in alumni fundraising at Columbia Law School since 1991.
