Fulbright Winners
Amherst has once again earned a spot on the yearly list of colleges and universities that boast the most U.S. student fellowship winners in the Fulbright Program, the federal government’s flagship international educational exchange. The Chronicle of Higher Education publishes the lists each year, and the College has ranked as a top Fulbright producer among B.A.-granting institutions consistently since 2008–09.
For the current academic year, 2023–24, two Amherst graduates are using grants from the Fulbright U.S. Student Program to conduct research in Ghana and Chile, respectively. Three more are working toward master’s degrees in New Zealand, Mexico and the United Kingdom. And an additional six are on Fulbright English Teaching Assistantships in Mexico, Colombia, Uruguay, the Slovak Republic and Taiwan.
The Fulbright Program is run by U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Lee Satterfield, assistant secretary of state for educational and cultural affairs, noted how “Dedicated administrators, faculty, and advisors support students and scholars to fulfill their potential and rise to address tomorrow’s global challenges through the Fulbright Program. We congratulate them, and all the Fulbrighters who are making a positive impact across the world.”
