Education: BA in English Literature from the College of Wooster, 1991

Bio: I started my career in trade publishing in NYC, helping print publishers migrate to computer-driven page layout and design from traditional page compositing techniques. From there I moved to a family-owned media company in Portland, Maine, and spent ~7 years helping their newspaper and television properties make the transition to the online world. I've spent the last 17 years working in higher education, helping Bowdoin, Skidmore and Amherst College through the same transition process.

Amherst History: I started work at Amherst in March of 2006 as Director of Web Services. I've twice assumed IT leadership roles in the intervening years - first as Interim Co-Director of Information Technology in 2010, next as Interim Chief Information Officer in September of 2014. In April of 2015 my appointment as CIO was made permanent.

Professional interests: I ran into the writings of Ted Nelson and his conception of Project Xanadu back in the late 1980's. I've spent the bulk of my career chasing Ted's dream.

Personal interests: I'm an avid reader, an avid gamer, am active outdoors, especially hiking and light mountaineering, and I have 2 young children (4 and 6 at the end of 2016) and a wife and Golden Retriever that I spend a lot of time adventuring with.
