Careers in Geology: Why Geology Rocks!

first choice
People with undergraduate and graduate degrees in geology can find rewarding careers in earth sciences in a range of industries, and in consulting, government agencies, and academics.  The outlook in our field is excellent, and the job satisfaction is even better!  You can find out more about the profession by speaking with any of the geology faculty or at any of the links listed below.  In particular, the American Geosciences Institute (AGI) has developed a number of useful tools to learn about careers in the earth sciences.

What many people don’t realize is that geology majors also have excellent career options in fields unrelated to earth science. Geology majors develop critical thinking skills, the ability to collect and constrain complex data, and proficiency in articulating their findings to an audience. Employers prize these skills, admissions officers at both graduate and professional schools seek such attributes, and as a result, senior Amherst geology majors have many doors open to them.

You can see what recent geology alumni are doing by going to the Alumni in Geology AC password-protected site.
