Meet The Writing Center's Student Team

In addition to our other roles, many of us work at the Welcome Desk in the Learning and Teaching Commons on the 2nd floor of Frost. Come by and say hi!

I grew up in São Paulo, Brazil, and came to Amherst College as a Koenig Scholar. I am passionate about education, People & Culture, and bridging inequality gaps in theory and in practice. As a member of the Writing Center Equity and Inclusion team, I help develop research and application projects for better Writing Center practices and policies.

One of my goals is to craft and implement inclusive and equity-driven practices in Amherst academic centers, with particular attention to the college experiences of international, multicultural, and first-generation students like myself. (she/her)

Hello! I am a junior originally from Boston and majoring in English and History. Having taken only humanities courses during my time at Amherst College—thanks to the open curriculum!—I am no stranger to writing or writing anxiety! My journey of academic growth as a student at Amherst has been one of finding my strengths as a writer with the help of a number of Writing Center associates.

As an intern at WC, I am particularly interested in how identity helps shape one's writing, and am also thinking about making the Learning Commons a welcoming space for all.

Hi! I’m Vy, a sophomore Statistics and Psychology major. In my downtime, I love hanging out with friends, watching a movie, or getting lost in a good book. An academic intern for the Writing Center, I am passionate about creating a welcoming atmosphere at the Learning and Teaching Center, ensuring that students feel at ease whether they seek assistance with academics or simply wish to utilize the center as a comfortable study space.

I hope every student will visit the Learning and Teaching Center at least once during their four years here and take advantage of the multitude of services offered! (she/her)

Hey! I am Shreya Hegde, from Bangalore, India. I'm contemplating pursuing a double major, and my possible choices include Physics, English, and Computer Science. Apart from being a Communications Assistant and Academic Intern at the Writing Center, I do theatre and poetry writing and sometimes play basketball. I also read a lot.

I love writing, and the people at the Writing Center give me so much joy. Thus, I want to develop projects to help communicate how wonderful this place is! (she/her)

My name is Sam Huang, and I’m a member of the Equity and Inclusion team here at the Writing Center! I’m a prospective Psychology and Economics double major, and I’m part of the Women’s Golf team.

I mainly joined the E&I team because I want to contribute to making the Writing Center an accessible resource for everyone on campus. (they/them)
