"The Amherst community is the most important asset the College has and we can make the student experience more enriching. We recognize the value philanthropy has played in our own education, and as 1821 Society members, we can pay it forward.”

Join 1821 TodaY

Named for the year that Amherst College was founded, the 1821 Society brings together philanthropic leaders from each generation of Amherst graduates, parents, and friends who are dedicated to ensuring that today’s students experience the fullest possible range of intellectual, athletic, artistic, and co-curricular opportunities.

By contributing annually to the Amherst Fund with a minimum gift of $1,821 (and special introductory levels for young alumni), you will be paving the way for future generations of Amherst students — just as the visionary founders did in 1821.

1821 Society members are foundational donors to the Amherst Fund. They represent the continuum of support for all Amherst students, regardless of financial need.

We celebrate the generosity and leadership of 1821 Society members in special ways throughout the year. But above all, members of the 1821 Society benefit from knowing that their support translates into educational opportunities that have made Amherst exceptional since 1821.
