Biography

Sarah Briggs began teaching violin at Amherst in 2008, is first violinist of Wistaria String Quartet, and performs with Berkshire and Springfield Symphonies. She plays at Williamstown Theater Festival (premiered “Row” in 2021) and is committed to local community performances. Sarah was tenured with Colorado (Denver) and Charlotte Symphonies, played with the Chicago and Utah Symphonies, and principal second of Central City Opera. She soloed with the Colorado Philharmonic, the Bach Aria Festival, the Holyoke Civic Symphony, and at a rehearsal for the Anchorage Symphony. She won first place in the Mid-Texas Young Artists Competition in 1985 while completing her Master’s at UT, Austin. She received her Bachelor's in Violin Performance from the Eastman School of Music, studying with Zvi Zeitlin and Peter Salaff. She was a fellow at Tanglewood, coached by members of the Cleveland, Juilliard, and Guarneri Quartets. Ms. Briggs is a dedicated teacher who loves working with students of all levels. Other enthusiasms are reading, yoga, cycling, vegetarian cooking, and traveling with her family.
