About the Diplomas

At Commencement, graduates are given individual diplomas. The diplomas measure 10" by 13" and are handed to students inside an inscribed tube.

The diplomas are issued in Latin. The English transcription follows:

The Trustees of Amherst College give greetings in The Lord to all readers of this letter. Let it be known that it is our decision to give (name), in accordance with his deserts, the title and rank of Bachelor of Arts (appropriate level) and we have granted him all the honors, dignities, insignia, rights and privileges pertaining to the rank in these United States.
